How Rihanna inspired me to break out of my lipstick comfort zone

Where were you when the video for Rihanna’s ‘Work’ came out? I was on the tube, as soon as I got home I went up to my room, turned off portrait orientation on my phone and watched.

After watching I just *had* to recreate Rihanna’s bold lipstick look, and GOSH’s Velvet Touch range had the perfect shade.

In case you missed the video, here it is:

Effectiveness

How do you judge the effectiveness of a lipstick I hear you cry?!

For me, an effective lipstick stays on for a reasonable amount of time, has the colour I expected it to have from the packaging and looks good in pictures. I don’t ask for much!

This lipstick stays on all night, the shade ‘twilight‘ has the perfect deep purple colour and as for the pictures… I’ll let you be the judge of that. This colour was amazing, the only thing that was unexpected was how shiny it is, I’m so used to GOSH’s matt lipsticks, but there’s nothing wrong with a little shine.

Ingredients

Packed with vegetable oils and Vitamin E it’s no wonder this product is so shiny, my lips felt moisturised even after I took it off, which is rare for lipsticks as they usually dry lips out.

Convenience

I have to admit, this lipstick did come off on a *lot* of things; glasses, my chin, my fingers, even my nose at one point for some reason. I think this is because it’s a super bold colour and so it’s more noticeable when it transfers on to other things.

It was as easy as any dark lipstick to apply, which really depends on your skill set, but one thing I would  say is I wish GOSH did a matching lip liner, I can’t find a suitable deep purple liner anywhere. You can buy GOSH’s Velvet Touch lipstick in twilight from Superdrug in store and online for £6.99.

The ‘R’ Factor

I would definitely recommend this lipstick as it’s cheap and does the job – when experimenting with new shades who really wants to be spending a whole bunch of money?
